General Dentistry

A general dentist can be considered the “primary care doctor” of dentistry. General dentists provide patients with general dental care, such as teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays, cavity fillings and root canals. The area of general dentistry is extremely broad, and general dentists are licensed to treat patients in all areas of dentistry. General dentistry is oftentimes referred to as “family dentistry,” because general dentists can easily treat all members of a single family on a variety of dental care. General dentists do not have a specific specialization in one area over others, but they study a broad range of information in several aspects of the dentistry field. If a patient’s needs fall outside of a general dentist’s care, the patient will be referred to the appropriate specialist.
